Infertility: No more band-aid solutions!

Did you know that most women who have trouble conceiving are not actually “infertile”at all? How can that be? The word infertility would imply that it is impossible for the woman to get pregnant, when in fact, the woman may be only “subfertile”. Here is a great explanation of the two words infertility and subfertility:

While people with infertility can never get pregnant without medical help, couples with subfertility may sometimes achieve a pregnancy in a natural way.

Subfertility is reduced fertility with a prolonged time of unwanted nonconception and includes many reversible causes. Subfertility affects more than 48 million women worldwide. One couple in seven has difficulty conceiving a baby.

Infertility is an absolute inability to conceive. One of the partners has a condition that makes it impossible to have a pregnancy. Subfertility is a situation where the couple has difficulty getting pregnant. It may also be caused by medical problems like sperm deficiencies or tubal diseases.

“Sub” is a Latin prefix meaning “below”. So subfertile women have low fertility—but not absent fertility. This is good news because it means there is hope and a chance to restore her body to normal health. That means that pregnancy odds with natural intercourse go up. But consider another perk to treating subfertility. Not only does the woman’s hormonal and physical health become restored, but related long term health problems can be greatly reduced or eliminated. Restoring your fertility means that you are doing a great service to your body by implementing a preventative health program too. A good example is when a woman suffers with a condition called PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), which is commonly linked to subfertility and miscarriage. If this metabolic condition is left untreated, over years it can lead to increased long term cardiovascular, insulin resistance and cancer risks.

Subfertility is actually a symptom of an underlying condition or disease.

When it comes right down to it, women and couples just want to know WHY they have subfertility or suffer miscarriages. Women may not be able to identify exactly what the cause is, but they surely know when something is wrong with their bodies. What women want are real solutions after so often being misdiagnosed… or not diagnosed at all. Brushing women off with a simple “unexplained infertility” diagnosis just doesn’t cut it. This diagnostic term gets thrown around much too quickly and easily. and implies infertility is unfixable. However, nothing is further from the truth. A woman’s fertility can indeed be repaired. Once the woman finally understands the why behind struggling to conceive, there is hope.

I have listened to many women and couples who are distraught at being told they have “unexplained infertility”. They are upset that they haven’t been heard or validated and feel that they have been rushed through the process like cattle. They are angry because they’ve spent tens of thousands of dollars without receiving an answer to their questions. I validate what they are feeling and experiencing. I then explain

that it takes lots of time and effort to fully understand what is behind a woman’s subfertility issue, time that those clinics do not have. Artificial reproductive technology (ART) clinics are more about taking over your body than investigating an endocrinology cause. Easier for them, but not so easy for you. They are simply not trained to provide you with what you really want… a root cause explanation. Moreover, they are businesses designed to help you achieve pregnancy artificially, not naturally.

Thankfully, that is where restorative reproductive medicine technology (RRM) comes in. What the heck is “Restorative Reproductive Medicine“ you ask? RRM is a medical field focused on identifying and treating the root cause of reproductive problems with an aim to restore and optimize the patient’s health. Instead of suppressing or bypassing the problem, RRM clinicians work collaboratively with patients, using fertility or cycle charting that allows for precisely timed testing and medications. The field of RRM is becoming increasingly credited for its contributions, not only as a proven and effective option for fertility treatment, but to women’s health in general. Over the decades, IVF procedures have made it much too easy for doctors to forget about healing women within this medical discipline.

Fortunately, the tides are turning for receiving treatment with RRM. There has been an astronomical surge in women taking back their fertility through Femtech and natural fertility health education. More and more clinicians are utilizing RRM techniques. Subfertility is not as complicated and difficult to understand when RRM is applied. There are really only four main factors causing subfertility in awoman:

  1. Female Factor (abnormal menstrual cycles or hormones that are too low or high)
  2. Cervical Factor (cervical mucus poor quality or quantity)
  3. Sexual Factor (Fertile window not properly identified or targeted)
  4. Anatomical Factor (disease or physical condition such as endometriosis, PCOS, tubal blockage, fibroids, polyps, etc)

In a nutshell, I tell women and couples what they can expect in an RRM program:

  • fertility awareness charting takes 10 minutes per day to help explain the mystery behind subfertilityit is natural and cooperative, not artificial nor invasive
  • it aims to find the root cause of subfertility within 3 months
  • it is not a generic, one size fits all
  • it is designed to provide answers AND solutions with commonly available evaluation techniques and treatment that RESTORE the body’s normal hormone levels and processes
  • it provides long term solutions for your entire reproductive life and beyond
  • it validates women’s concerns and helps the couple conceive on their own

Say no to band-aid solutions. Women deserve better health and a real chance at achieving pregnancy. Don’t you agree?
